The Iowa State softball team sent Drake back to Des Moines with two losses as they swept Wednesday’s doubleheader, 13-5 and 8-0.

The Cyclones kicked past Drake’s 3-0 advantage in the first inning of game one when sophomore Raven Coberg pounded a three-run homer. Senior Debbie Nease followed Coberg’s lead with another home run, sending three across the plate to increase the score, 8-3.

Freshman Jessica Polo added to the offensive rally with four hits, and Nease contributed two hits and five RBIs. Senior Brenna Miller and sophomore Mindy Penrod each pitched in two hits.

In the five-inning, 13-5 triumph, Debbie Nease struck out six and upped her record to 7-4.

The Cyclones dominated the bats early in the second game. Raven Coberg’s double, together with four additional team hits in the second inning, brought ISU to a 4-0 lead. Two Drake errors and three more hits, including a double from Brenna Miller and singles from Coberg and junior Missy Danilson earned the Cyclones an 8-0 edge in the third.

The Bulldogs were stifled in just five innings, as the Cyclones finally prevailed, 8-0.

Senior pitcher Courtney Dully took the second win over Drake to grasp her third shutout of the season. Dully struck out eight batters, walked none, and gave up just one hit. The defeat improves her record to 4-4.

The Cyclones leap to an 11-9 record, as the Bulldogs slide to 12-8. ISU kicks off conference play this weekend at Texas and Texas A&M and return to their home field against Nebraska April 5 at noon.
