After a long, cold winter, Iowa State students will have a chance to participate in spring and summer sports offered by the Ames Parks and Recreation Department.

Ames Parks and Recreation has been offering spring and summer sports for over 30 years.

Slow pitch softball, sand volleyball, golf lessons, tennis lessons, swimming, hockey and roller hockey are offered during the spring and summer.

Ames Parks and Recreation is now forming men’s, women’s and co-recreational summer slow pitch softball leagues. The registration forms and the $50 deposit per team is required Thursday by 4:30 p.m.

Participants will need to provide their own equipment. College students and residents of the Ames community are encouraged to get involved, said Rick Ertz, Ames recreation superintendent.

“We usually have a fairly large turn-out. A lot of it depends on the facilities [and] space. Some sports have a maximum number of entrants,” Ertz said.

About the middle of April, Ames Parks and Recreation will send out catalogs for summer sports and activities.

For registration information call 239-5350 or stop by the Gateway Administration Office at 1500 Gateway Hills Park Avenue or the Community Center located at 5th and Clark.
