A sports story in Tuesday’s Daily incorrectly reported that Iowa State gymnast Kim Mazza was the first ISU gymnast to score a perfect 10 in an event. Mazza scored a 10 on the floor exercise at the Big 12 Championship meet on Saturday.
In fact, ISU gymnast Ron Galimore, the first black gymnast to make the ISU squad, scored a 10 on the vault during the 1981 NCAA Championships. He was the first gymnast to score a 10 on the vault during the championships. In addition, Galimore was the first and only ISU gymnast to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team. He was to compete in the boycotted 1980 Olympics.
The Daily regrets the error.
