Youngsters included in Veishea planning

Veishea is no longer a celebration for only the big kids.
This year, Veishea committees are striving to make Veishea an event for all ages.
“Several committees are working to get kids involved this year,” said Daniel Faidley, general co-chair of Veishea.
Faidley said each committee is focusing on different methods to increase family involvement during Veishea. He said the committees are using advertising techniques in order to promote the activities.
For the first time ever, Faidley said, a group of Veishea committee members will visit Crawford Elementary in Ames to speak with the children and get them excited about the celebration.
The committees are planning new events and keeping the traditional events which target children and families.
Faidley said the children will get a chance to create their own parade this year. He said this would be a “smaller” version of the annual Veishea parade.
This year, families will be able to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Veishea celebration. “There will be a birthday party for Veishea’s 75 years,” Faidley said.
Cy’s Big Top on central campus will remain an annual Veishea event, Faidley said. He said this popular event consists of a variety of games, face painting and other activities.
“This year we have a new balloon game to add to the other games previously used at Cy’s Big Top,” he said.
Cy’s Big Top is sponsored by numerous campus organizations, fraternities and sororities.
Faidley said the Veishea committees will set up a Veishea coloring book for the kids to decorate. “This event’s popular among the kids every year,” he said.
Faidley said he is unsure of the exact schedule of events for families and children.
