Don’t count my vote
March 27, 1997
It appears that the “change” that GSB President-Elect Rob Wiese promised just isn’t going to happen. In his first decision as student body chief, he has chosen to engage in an action that represents nothing more than “political cronyism.” For someone who ran as the antithesis of the “evil” Adam Gold, Rob Wiese is now demonstrating that he is no different than those he was so critical of just a month ago.
Mr. Wiese, always quick to say that “he feels your pain,” has chosen to reward campaign loyalty over experience in choosing our GSB Finance Director. The selection of Jeremy Williams, a known Wiese supporter during the campaign, over current GSB Finance Director Todd Swanson, demonstrates that Rob has no intentions of selecting the most qualified individuals for important positions within our student government.
Let me state, in no uncertain terms, that GSB has never had a better Finance Director than Todd Swanson. He is the most organized and capable individual that I have ever met. In the last year, Todd has turned a system that was nothing short of a mockery into an efficient and fair process that is accountable for every penny. He has done an outstanding job for the students of Iowa State.
Mr. Wiese is already being critical of those who disagree with his decisions by saying they are “playing games.” The only person “playing games” in this situation is the president-elect.
President Wiese, please don’t count on my vote at the first Senate meeting. I intend on having a GSB that selects the most qualified people. That is what the students of lowa State University want as well.
