March. 12

* Kathy Berrett, 116 Lied Center, reported that a male has been using counterfeit passes to obtain free recreation services. Officer talked with Jeffrey Steele Bundy, 5016 Kansas Dr., Ames, and he admitted using a computer and laminator to produce counterfeit access cards. After investigating the incident, Bundy was placed under arrest, cited for fifth-degree theft and released.

* Mark Hoffmann, 105 Horticulture Hall, reported that some computer equipment was taken from Room 105 Horticulture, the resource room. He said the DOS compatible card for a Power Mac 6100 was taken from one of the computers in the room. Estimated loss is $550.

March 13

* Officer stopped a vehicle on Mortensen Rd., for having a headlight burned out. While doing a routine driver’s license check on the driver, Andrew Paul Busch, 608 Durrell Circle, Ames, it was found he was driving under suspension/revoked, and without registration. Officer placed Busch under arrest, and brought him to DPS where Busch was cited and released.

* Officer stopped a vehicle at Sheldon and Hunt, for not having any tail lights. When officer approached the driver, Michelle Lynn Moore, 2919 Oakland #17, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol about her person. Officer administered field sobriety tests to Moore, which she failed. She was transported to DPS for processing, and then to the Story County Jail.

* Amanda Easton, 103 Stanton #10, wanted to file a complaint against Bud’s Service Center for towing her car.

* DPS received a fire alarm on the Simplex Residence Hall computer. Officers and the fire department were dispatched. Upon arrival, the panel indicated a problem in the basement. While doing a search, the officers and fire department found the smoke and smell were coming from Room 12, in the basement. Once inside the room, they found that a sewing machine had been left on, and the motor was very hot. The machine was disconnected, and the room was ventilated. Estimated damage to the lock is $50.

March 14

* David Pavlik, 36 Exhibit Hall, reported that some lumber was taken from the hallway of Exhibit Hall. Estimated loss is $72.

March 15

* Driving under the influence, Lincoln Way and Hyland.

March 17

* Officer stopped a vehicle at Welch Ave. and Chamberlain, for speeding. When a routine driver’s license check was run, it was found that the driver, Jamil Khaled Shaltaf, 800 Pinon #207, had an unserved suspension. Shaltaf was served the suspension, and released.

* Officer stopped a vehicle in Lot 50D, for running a stop sign. When officer ran the driver’s license through the system, it was found that he had an unserved suspension. The driver, Adewale Owolabi, 2216 Friley Hall, was served the suspension and released.

* Officer stopped a vehicle at Welch and Chamberlain for driving without headlights on. When officer approached the driver of the vehicle, Kerry Lynn Hoiberg, 1107 Carroll Ave., he could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. Officer administered field sobriety tests to her, which she failed. She was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

* Driving under the influence, 100 block of North Hyland.

* Destruction/damage/vandalism of property, State Gym, Beyer Hall, Power Plant.

* Officer noticed the glass broken out of a bus stop at Mortensen Parkway and Welch Road. He talked with Cy-Ride, and they are going to replace the glass. Estimated damage is $300.

* Rolando Arturo Flores, 2116 Prairie View West, reported his parking permit stolen. On 3-17-97, the permit was found in a vehicle. The vehicle was towed and the permit recovered.

* Dawn R. DeLong, 310 S. Franklin, reported that while she was attending an aerobics class in the Physical Education Building, she had left her back pack with the other back packs. When she returned, she found that a bracelet and a calculator were missing from her back pack. Estimated loss is $194.

* Weibing Zhou, 152G University Village, reported that his passport is missing. He said that he doesn’t know if he lost it, or if he accidentally threw it away. Estimated loss is $10.

* LaKisha M. Darden, 3315 West St. #4, reported that she has been receiving harassing mail.

March 18

* Alicia Inman, 3440 Wilson Hall, reported that she has received about eight collect calls from an unknown person.

* Traci Carmey, B-6 Memorial Union, reported that a roll of stamps was missing from her desk drawer. She said the desk drawer was locked at the time of the theft. She said this is the fourth time that stamps have been stolen out of the drawer since last July. Estimated loss is $16.

* Bill Dee, operations manager for the Memorial Union, reported that a chair was taken from the first floor foyer in the Memorial Union. He said the chair has been missing since March 9. He said the building has been checked, but they have been unable to locate the chair. Estimated loss is $100.

* Mark Bransford, 209 N. Hyland, reported that someone has written on his vehicle, in the dirt, broken out his tail light lens, bent the radio antenna and keyed the right side of his vehicle, while it was parked in Lot 29A. Estimated damage is $475.
