March 6

* Driving under the influence, Lot 63.

*Officer stopped a vehicle in Lot 59E, for expired registration. When officer talked with the driver, Jacob Tyrel Homan, 3404 Coy St. #1, he could smell alcohol coming from him. Officer administered field sobriety tests to Homan, which he passed. Officer cited Homan for the .02 violation and released him.

* Chad Fleener, ISU Parking System, reported a possible intoxicated male in Marston Ct. Upon officer’s arrival, he found Justin James Venner, 201 Gray Ave., with Fleener. Venner had a strong odor of alcohol about his person. Venner was placed under arrest for public intoxication.

* Theft from motor vehicle, Osborn Dr.

* Sarah A. Kowalczyk, 1121 Delaware Ave. #1, reported that when she was attempting to enter the Durham Center, she was approached by a male she didn’t know. She said the male grabbed her arms, and said, “You’re taking me home with you.” She said the male had an obvious accent. She said she asked another male in the area to help her, which he did.

* Ames P. D. reported receiving a call from Pammel Ct. of a child being left home alone. Upon officer’s arrival, the father was getting out of his vehicle. Officer talked with the father about the incident. Officer advised the father that the Department of Human Services would be informed of the incident.

* Dave Wells, ISU, reported that a tool bag, that John Jones was using, was taken from Bessey Hall. Jones stated that he had put the bag down, and when he returned to get it, it was gone. Estimated loss is $300.

March 7

* Mental subject, Buchanan Hall.

*Officers stopped a vehicle on Welch Ave. after witnessing it turn right on red where there was a sign posted NO RIGHT TURN ON RED. When officer approached the driver, Shawn Marie Goodhart, he noticed an odor of alcohol coming from her person. Officer administered field sobriety tests to her, which she failed. Goodhart was placed under arrest for OWI.

* Melissa B. Lange, 2619 Ferndale #4, reported she had received six electronic post cards from an unknown person. One of the cards was in Japanese, three were in Spanish, and one was in French.

* Craig Ernest Gates, 1282 Birch Hall, reported that while his vehicle was parked in Lot 63, someone damaged the hood. Estimated damage is $200.

* Andy Gonzales, 2263 Friley Hall, reported that he had left his wallet near the basketball court in the Rec Center while he played basketball. When he returned for it, the wallet was gone. Estimated loss is $33.

March 8

* Officer stopped a vehicle at Lincoln Way and Hayward, after the officer observed the vehicle leave the stop light, at Lincoln Way and Lynn, in a huge cloud of blue smoke caused by burning rubber. At the intersection of Lincoln Way and Welch, officer noticed that the vehicle had a flat tire on the driver’s side. When officer approached the driver, Michael B. Cabral, 3405 Woodland, West Des Moines, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol about Cabral. When the officer asked Cabral for his driver’s license, Cabral told the officer that he didn’t have a driver’s license and that he has never had one. Officer administered field sobriety tests on Cabral, which he failed. Cabral was placed under arrest for OWI, open container and possession under the legal age. When officer’s checked the vehicle for an inventory, before the vehicle was towed, he found several unopened cans of beer, and a couple of open cans of beer.

* An ISU garbage truck, driven by Gerald Wayne Deal, 530 5th St., Boone, was backing up in Lot 29, when he struck a light pole. Estimated damage to the truck is $500. Estimated damage to the light pole is $2,000.

March 9

* Theft from building, Lied Recreation Center.

March 11

* RCA Security reported someone had broken into Roberts Hall. Upon arrival, officer found someone had tore the screen apart and entered the building through the den window. Officer and RCA guards, checked the area but were unable to locate anyone. Estimated damage is $10.
