About 30 votes shy of a win, Adam Gold, Government of the Student Body president, will not be back again next year for another term in office, even as a senator.
Gold ran as a write-in candidate for an off-campus Senate seat in last week’s 1997-98 GSB elections.
About 450 students voted for their nine off-campus representatives. Eleven students ran, many as write-in candidates, for the nine seats. Gold received 78 votes, good for 10th place.
“I was amazed I got that many votes,” Gold said.
“I was completely and utterly amazed. I didn’t tell a soul I was running, so I expected about 10 people to vote for me.”
Gold said he ran for the seat because there was a possibility he would be on campus next year as a graduate student and wanted to continue his involvement in GSB.
Gold said he has no plans of trying to get on the Senate through any of the vacant seats.
“I’ve now gotten a good job offer as of Friday. I think I’m going to move on,” Gold said.
