ISUis not the NBA
March 28, 1997
A recent article in the Daily referred to ISU Basketball Coach Tim Floyd being recruited by other schools. I was shocked to read what his salary is here, not to mention the larger salaries mentioned for other schools.
Is this the NBA or amateur athletics? How many times greater is coach Floyd’s salary than President Jischke’s? How does the salary of ISU faculty compare? What about the stipends for graduate students, who often struggle to support a family? I recall learning about the income gap between the rich and the poor while attending ISU, but I never expected to see such a profound example at ISU.
I hope and presume coach Floyd’s salary comes out of TV revenue or somewhere besides university funds or student pockets, but the amount seems absurd to me (and perhaps unethical or immoral), regardless of the source. I’m a long time fan of ISU athletics, but I think I’ll have a harder time cheering in the future — if I can cough up the money for tickets.
