Eyewitnesses are needed to help identify the driver of a car who struck a dog last Tuesday about 3 p.m. on Bissell Drive, by the crosswalk in front of the Design Building.
M.D. Kerns, a graduate student in psychology, said he was walking his dog, Kiki, when the dog was hit.
He described the car as a dark blue, four-door, late-model GM sedan, possibly an Oldsmobile or a Buick. Kerns said he is fairly certain the vehicle had Iowa license plates. After hitting the dog, the driver continued to drive away, he said.
“She [the dog] got up and walked to me. Her left eye had been ripped out of her head,” Kerns said.
The dog is now under the care of veterinarians at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Kerns said an operation on Thursday to remove her left eye was successful. Though the dog still suffers from bleeding in the lungs and severe intercranial bleeding, he said.
Kerns asks that anyone who has any information about the hit-and-run driver to contact the Department of Public Safety at 294-4428.
Also, Kerns said medical costs for Kiki have already reached more than $1,000 and if anyone is interested in helping with expenses he said to call him at 292-2877.
