Can you believe it?

An agreement has been reached between members of The September 29th Movement and Iowa State administrators.

Now wait a second, this can’t be right. These two factions have been so stubborn we simply assumed there was no possible way they’d ever come to an agreement.

First they disagreed on the name of Catt Hall, which sparked it all. Since then, neither side can agree with anything the other side does.

The two sides couldn’t even agree to sit down and talk. They argued over moderators. They stared each other down in Beardshear Hall. They disputed freedom of speech rights. They brought in lawyers. They disagreed on what sanctions they would receive. They fought over the student handbook. They were about to hash it all out in front of the eyes of the university before an open All-University Judiciary hearing.

Then they kissed and made up.

It was a storybook ending. It was good to see ISU administrators and The Movement finally, finally agree on something. This agreement, we hope, can be the start of continued talks. This agreement may be the start of many agreements between the two sides.

While the judicial saga relating to the rally in the lobby of Beardshear Hall is over, the story of The September 29th Movement versus the ISU administration is far from complete. Let’s just hope they continue to agree to disagree, because it’s better than disagreeing about everything.
