A little more research, a little less speculating

Your sports editor asked an interesting question in Tuesday’s Daily (Mar. 18) about the ISUbasketball program not recruiting some high school kid by the name of Gary Cochran, who recently became the all-time leading scorer in the state’s history.

I, too, had some concern a number of weeks ago and decided to pose my question at the noon Tim Floyd luncheon. By doing this, I would have the fact directly from the man, Coach Floyd. Coach Floyd has also addressed this issue on his weekly radio call-in show.

To you, Mr. Chad Calek, take off your sunglasses and get down to good reporting. Try asking the man rather than trying to stir up controversy.

This basketball program has come too far under Coach Floyd for some skeptic journalism student to suddenly start questioning the decision-making of a highly skilled, highly paid, successful coach and recruiter.

I won’t take the time to share the answer I got from Coach Floyd with you. I hope you will take the time to find out for yourself, then share it with your readers so all of us can be on the same page. Trust me on this one, Mr. Calek, Kansas State and Nebraska can have this recruit.

You could also read the scouting reports from Vanco Coleman, and you will have the answer to your question: Did ISUlet one get away? Hint: In Coach Floyd’s scheme of things, there is more to his game plan than someone launching threes. “D” it up, Chad.
