McConnell honored for service and support

An Iowa State professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics has received the 1997 D.J. Michelle Award of the Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM).

Kenneth McConnell received the award last week in Orlando, Fla.

He was recognized for his exemplary service and support in promoting the science and educational aspects of model analysis technology.

McConnell has won several awards from SEM in the past including the M.M. Frocht Award for outstanding achievement as an experimental mechanics educator and election as a Fellow of the society in 1985. He also won the Murray Medal and gave the William M. Murray Lecture at the SEM spring meeting in 1994.

McConnell came to ISU in 1957 as an instructor and became a professor in 1975.

He has developed several new courses, including graduate courses in vibrations, dynamic measurements and experimental model analysis.

In 1986, McConnell received the College of Engineering superior teaching award and in 1995, he received the ISU Alumni Association faculty citation.
