Thank the women’s basketball team

Lynn Sandeman

I would like to urge members of the ISU community to come to Hilton Coliseum Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. to say “thank you” to a special group of women. It’s the final home appearance for five outstanding senior members of the Iowa State women’s basketball team — Tara Gunderson, Julie Hand, Alicia Lee, Kim Martin and Cheyenne Palmer. Their athletic and academic accomplishments and contributions to Iowa State University are outstanding. The manner in which they’ve represented this university is exemplary.

On Sunday, Feb. 23 the Cyclones traveled to Nebraska where they beat the Cornhuskers by two points in front of over 7,000 Nebraska fans! Truly impressive. On that same day, the University of Iowa women’s basketball team played at home in front of over 8,700 Hawkeye fans. At the University of Texas (a team that Iowa State beat by 18 points), attendance at women’s basketball games averages between 7,000 and 8,000 people. Surely, it’s possible for 3,000 to 4,000 fans to give this team one final hurrah.

Challenge to ISU students — show your support and appreciation for the Cyclone women when they play Oklahoma State tonight at 7 p.m. Help these five seniors remember what “Hilton Magic” is all about!
