Frances Kendall, a diversity facilitator from California, will speak tonight on diversity issues at the Memorial Union.
Kendall came to Iowa State last April to moderate discussions about Catt Hall among students, faculty and administrators. Students in The September 29th Movement contend that Carrie Chapman Catt, for whom the hall is named, made racist statements while working to earn the right to vote for women.
In addition, The Movement has requested Kendall to moderate discussions between Movement members and President Martin Jischke, but while at ISU, she is not scheduled to moderate for The Movement.
Her discussion tonight is a continuation of her April 17 visit last year, said Pat Miller, coordinator for the ISU Lectures Program.
She will be meeting with education classes all day today before her evening lecture, titled “Strategies for Institutional Change During a Period of Backlash.”
Kendall has more than 20 years of experience in diversity issues.
Her speech begins tonight at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.
