After being detained in his dorm room by Department of Public Safety officers on Wednesday, Erik Jensen, a junior in genetics from Ames, was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center by ambulance for treatment, according a DPS police report.
Officers were called to 133 Linden Hall at about 10:45 a.m. after receiving a call from the Dean of Students Office and the Student Counseling Center. Jensen was reportedly on his way to Beardshear Hall to confront members of the Iowa State administration.
DPS officials stopped Jensen before he reached Beardshear. Most details about the incident were not made available.
However, two students living in Linden Hall said DPS officers were searching for Jensen throughout Wednesday morning.
“They were all over campus,” one student said.
Prior to his transport to Mary Greeley, where Jensen will receive counseling and “support,” he damaged property in Linden Hall, the report stated.
DPS officials classified the incident as a mental committal and criminal mischief.
DPS Director Loras Jaeger said DPS is treating Jensen as a student who needs counseling and not as a criminal. He said the ISU community should view Jensen in the same manner.
It’s unclear why Jensen was upset with administrators.
