Elvis wasn’t ‘evil’
February 11, 1997
After the controversial band Marilyn Manson has come and gone, we have a question: Where’s the controversy?
Parents and teachers were in a big tizzy over this band that features much leather, makeup, demonic metalcrunching and some out-of-this-world antics. This band’s main selling point is shock value.
This rock band is not doing anything new compared to many other rock bands that have gone before them.
This same controversy came around for Elvis Presley and many others since, including Alice Cooper, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne and even The Grateful Dead.
Although Marilyn Manson is no Elvis Presley, the King himself faced controversy over “evil” lyrics.
The King received flack for swinging his pelvis.
Times have changed and now rock stars beat up their lead guitar players.
It may be upsetting to some, but Marilyn Manson is earning a buck as the newest freak show.
Personally, none of us likes Marilyn Manson’s music, but it amuses us how parents and teachers freak out over these freaks.
These people should realize that many rock bands have gimmicks. The stuff Marilyn Manson does is just that — a gimmick.
