Hawkeye wrestlers handle Wildcats 40-4

Both the women’s and the men’s teams were victorious on Saturday over the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix.

The men’s team defeated NIU, 130-74, and UWGB, 118-113. The women’s team beat NIU 134-104 and UWGB 117-95.

For the Cyclone men, Martin Andersson, Joakim Dahl and John Ruzicka had season best victories.

Andersson finished with a time of :46.01 in the 100 freestyle while Dahl won the butterfly with a time of 1:51.21. Ruzicka put the icing on the cake with a time of :21.04 in the 50 freestyle.

“This is a good meet with a wonderful setting. We get to give everybody a chance to compete for our conference team,” ISU Head TrackCoach Trip Hedrick said. “I am pleased with our training at this point in the season.”

For the Cyclone women, Senior Christa Graper and Julie bancroft celebrated their last meet at Beyer Hall by winning their individual events.

Graper won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.63 while Bancroft won the 50 freestyle in :24.93. Junior Trudy Henkels took home first place honors in the 200 butterfly with a finish of 2:12.17.

ISU’s 400 freestyle team of Angela Arias, Katie Oien, Bancroft and Graper claimed first with a time of 3:37.91.

“As a team they all performed well. It’s hard to pick any one person out. Julie (Bancroft) and Christa (Graper) were probably our top two kids. It was a good day to race,” said ISU Head Swimming Coach Ramsey Van Horn.
