[This letter is in response the letter titled “Is there room for help?” by Thulina Wickrama which ran in Monday’s Daily and stated it was difficult to receive assistance from helpers at Durham Hall’s Computation Center.].
Perhaps you guys should talk to the Help Room coordinator, Sly Upah.
I believe they have a policy about not leaving the room, because they also have to answer the phones too.
So from what I understand, they aren’t supposed to leave their chair while working (under ‘normal’ circumstances, of course. I suppose it’s OK to let them go to the bathroom when they need to, right?)
Anyway, Mr. Upah should be able to fill the Daily in on what the description of a job in the Help Room entails. Then maybe you could print that so that people would know what to expect.
These workers which there are only two at a time, except for the 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. shifts in which there are three workers, do not have time to go spend 30 minutes with each person when there are how many thousands of students here?
Please take time and number constraints into account before you go spouting off about other people and make sure you know exactly what their jobs entail so you don’t look bad. (Nobody wants to look bad and we all serve the same people, right?).
