Engineers gearing up
January 17, 1997
Students in engineering, engineering disciplines, technical majors, computer science and management information systems, get ready. National Engineers’ Week is quickly approaching and interested companies are seeking employees.
Even though engineering week is not until the middle of February, students are encouraged to sign up early for interviews with potential employers.
The main event scheduled for the week is the Second Annual College of Engineering Co-op/Intern/Summer Job Expo that will be held on Feb. 19.
The event will host between 50-60 companies from all over the United States. Intell and IBM are just two of the many companies scheduled to attend. Engineering companies seeking students from all areas of engineering will be present.
The Expo will be an opportunity for companies to identify students who are interested in a co-op, an intern or a summer work experience. It will also provide students the opportunity to find relevant work experience in their chosen engineering field.
However, students are advised to get their resumes prepared now.
Loni Pringnitz, adviser for the Expo, said, “Now is the time to get your resumes prepared.”
During the week of Feb. 19, there will be 1,000 interview slots for students interested in signing up. The day after the expo there will be more than 400 interviews scheduled with the companies.
For those worried that their resumes and interviewing skills are not up to par, don’t worry. The engineering office provides programs and seminars to help students sharpen their interviewing skills and fine tune their resumes.
Kari Ellingson, senior in ceramic engineering, and Vanessa Brandt, sophomore in construction engineering, are the co-chairs for the event.
Ellingson said, “This is a good opportunity for students to network and get experience, and it doesn’t matter if you are a freshman or a grad student.”
