A man who led Ames police officers on a car chase before running away on foot early Thursday morning is still at large.
An Ames police officer, patrolling the area of Westbend Drive and North Dakota Avenue shortly after midnight Thursday morning, pursued the vehicle. The officer was trying to stop the car for speeding in the area.
The vehicle, a 1982 green Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, failed to stop for the officer. The driver then tried to elude the patrol car, eventually stopping in Emma McCarthy Lee Park in west Ames.
According to Ames police, the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot.
After a further investigation, police discovered that the car had been stolen from Arnold Mace of Nevada a few hours prior to the incident.
The driver is described as a white male adult, 5-feet 9-inches tall, with light-colored hair. He was wearing a light-colored jacket and jeans, police said.
As of press time Thursday, the man had not been apprehended.
