Vittal honored by IEEE

An Iowa State professor of electrical and computer engineering has been elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Vijay Vittal, started his career at ISU in 1979 as a research assistant. He later earned his doctoral degree in electrical engineering from ISU in 1982.

Vittal has received several honors and awards. Among them, the Presidential Young Investigation Award from the President of the United States in 1985 and the Young Engineering Faculty Research Award from ISU in 1989.

From 1993 to 1994, Vittal served as program director for Power Systems for the National Science Foundation Division of Electrical and Communication Systems in Washington, D.C.

Fewer than one in 1,000 IEEE members were elected Fellows this year. This is the institute’s most prestigious honor.
