Daily editor wins national award

Chris Miller, editor in chief of the Iowa State Daily, recently received a national award for editorial writing.

Miller wrote about the Jack Trice controversy in a Daily editorial piece called “Time to honor a hero. Nearly 75 years ago Iowa State stood up for Jack Trice. Why can’t we now?”

In December, Miller was notified that the editorial won first place in the William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s Journalism Awards Program.

Competition for the award included submissions from more than 100 undergraduate journalism programs from colleges and universities across the country.

Miller received a $2,000 scholarship and will have the opportunity in May to compete in the National Writing Championship in San Francisco.

Iowa State’s journalism department will receive a matching grant from the foundation.
