Christian Reynolds of Ames wrote (in a letter Dec. 10) that he believes that, “The goals of marriage include the sharing of love and passion between two people who deeply love each other and wish to start a family through the rituals of procreation.”

The “rituals of procreation?!”

If I remember correctly, there aren’t that many Americans who have elevated the act of conception into a ritual. And, as a matter of fact, according to the most recent U.S. Census, only about 25 percent of modern American households have children under 18 years of age living at home.
