Classes at ISU are canceled when President Martin Jischke, Provost John Kozak and Vice President for Business and Finance Warren Madden deem conditions so severe that they “endanger students’ health.”

Since 1971, classes have been canceled 16 times due to severe winter weather, and once, in 1993, because of flooding.

Friday, Feb. 3, 1996 was the last time classes were canceled. Wind chills dipped to 70 below, but students still stood outside to get into Campustown bars.
