Tournament is even better than bar olympics
January 23, 1997
Remember those long nights at the bars chucking quarters into the pool table or dart machine with nothing else to do? Well, here’s a chance to make all those quarters seem not so wasted.
The annual Memorial Union Recreation Tournament, sponsored by the Student Union Board will be held on Jan. 26. The tournament is an opportunity for all men and women to compete in events such as bowling, darts, billiards and table tennis.
Some participants will also have a chance to advance to the regional tournament.
Doug Wandersee, a coordinator of the tournament, said, “It’s a chance to provide opportunities and events for students to excel in.”
The tournament will be organized in a round robin style or single elimination, based on participation. Bowling will consist of playing three games with coed teams of two men and two women beginning at noon in the Memorial Union.
Darts will be done in singles, with three out of five games needed to win the match. Cricket will follow the dart game, held in the MU.
Billiards will begin at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union, in an eight-ball tournament.
Three out of five wins are needed to win the match, with the possibility of a men’s and women’s division, depending on the number of participants.
At 1 p.m., table tennis will begin in the P.E. Building Gym 184. The best out of three games will advance, with a singles competition only.
ISU is also holding the ACUI Region 10 Recreation Tournament on Feb. 8-9 for those who advance.
Approximately 20 colleges will be present for the regional tournament, with medals for the winners.
Preregistration for the tournament is due at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Recreation Center. There is a $3 registration fee for all participants.
