Sports drops ball

On Saturday, Jan. 11 the Iowa State women’s basketball team won a very important game at Oklahoma. It was their first victory in 16 games at Norman and boosted their overall record to 9-4 and 2-1 in the Big 12.

Yet, you would never know this by reading the Daily. Tucked in the corner of the sports page on Jan. 14 was a pathetic, one-column, six-inch story by Ryan Harvey with no quotes from the coach or players. On the opposite page there was a three- column story with a large, bold headline about ex-Cyclone football player Calvin Branch’s performance in the Blue-Gray game! Big deal! I’d rather read about our ISU student-athletes.

The Daily’s coverage of women’s sports has been terrible all year. If Harvey isn’t interested in the women’s basketball beat find someone who is.

It’s time to be fair and responsible in your reporting.
