Iowa State forward Kenny Pratt will be arraigned Monday at 1 p.m. at the Story County Courthouse in Nevada on charges of drunken driving and serious assault.
Pratt is charged in connection with an alleged confrontation with Ames police Dec. 28 after an automobile accident. Police said a car owned by a woman from Perry collided with Pratt’s rental vehicle. Police reports indicate that Pratt failed a breathalizer test at the scene.
ISU Coach Tim Floyd suspended Pratt following the incident, but Pratt was reinstated by an athletic department appeals committee pending the outcome of the case.
In addition, Pratt has been charged with driving without a license, harassment of a public official and interference with official acts. Pratt will enter a plea of “guilty” or “not guilty” at Monday’s arraignment.
Stephen Holmes, an assistant with the Story County Attorney’s Office who is handling the case, said Pratt may send in a written plea instead of appearing in person.
If Pratt pleads not guilty, a trial must start within 90 days of the preliminary hearing, a period intended for pretrial motions and discovery. If Pratt waives his right to a speedy trial, the trial date deadline will be extended to one year.
However, most cases of this nature are resolved within a few months, Holmes said.
