It is once again time for students to devote a few minutes of class time to fill out the ever-popular teacher evaluations.
Many have wondered just how important the evaluations are. One small group of students decided not to let curiosity get the best of them.
Eight students in Communication Studies 214 launched an investigation into the evaluations. The findings of their research will be presented today in the Gallery of the Memorial Union during a program called “The Myths of Teacher Evaluations” at 2 p.m.
Group member Nu Huynh, a junior in psychology said through interviews with professors, administrators, students and others, the group discovered the main purpose of teacher evaluations “is data gathering to evaluate teachers based on employment opportunities.”
