Dash of country, splash of rock: recipe for music

J.R. Grant

Somewhere swimming among the dozens of bands rehashing the same sounds over and over is a band that brings a flavor to the stage that is all its own yet hints at conformity.

Dash Rip Rock, a name that almost perfectly sums up the band’s attitude, come into town tonight in support of its newest release Gold.

From its early beginnings, playing fraternity parties and dumpy clubs, Dash Rip Rock made a name for itself around the music scene of the South.

They have now hit the road to bring their self- proclaimed southern rock, speed metal, country punk, surf guitar and bluegrass live for your listening pleasure.

It is Dash Rip Rock’s energy and sarcasm that keep fans and would-be fans alike tuned into the music.

A prime example of their sarcasm and plain old Southern humor is the somewhat-hit “Let’s Go smoke Some Pot,” a song that pokes fun at the illegal but popular habit.

The song is a parody off of “At The Hop” and has been wildly requested at radio stations all across the country.

The song was originally recorded to be released on Capricorn’s Hempilation compilation but unfortunately did not make the cut.

The song ended up on one of the band’s earlier releases, Get You Some Of Me. But newer fans of the band need not worry because the song shows up again on Gold.

“A lot of people have been coming up to us saying, ‘Dude! I smoke pot! My mom smokes pot!’ It’s really hilarious,” Bill Davis, the band’s lead singer said in a press release.

Dash Rip Rock continues to broaden its fan base by doing the one thing that sometimes gets lost in the music industry’s shuffle, and that is simply to entertain an audience.

It all totals out to be a great rock ‘n’ roll show with a shade of humor and good clean fun.

Dash Rip Rock will perform its musical antics tonight at the M-Shop.

The show starts at 8 p.m. with the Rugburns. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. You need not bring an I.D. because it is an all ages show.
