An Ames man was struck by a car while he was jogging along Cameron School Road in Ames early Monday morning.
According to the Story County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. Monday morning. Robert Murphy Rothaug, 27, of Rural Route 4, was jogging west in the eastbound traffic lane near the Skunk River bridge when he was struck by a car traveling east.
The driver of the car was identified as Darrell Wayne Christianson, of Boone.
Christianson told deputies he couldn’t see Rothaug jogging in time to react due to blowing snow.
Rothaug was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where he was flown by Mercy Air-Life helicopter to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines with critical injuries.
He was in surgery as of press time Tuesday. Rothaug’s condition was not immediately available.
