An Iowa State student filed a complaint with the Ames Police Department Wednesday night after he said he was purposely struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Christopher Janda, a senior in forestry, said he was riding his bicycle south on Hyland Ave. between 11:30 and 11:40 Wednesday night when a light blue Acura Integra pulled out of an apartment building complex on the west side of the street and drove north away from Janda.

About 30 seconds later, Janda said he heard an engine revving up behind him.

The car then pulled up to less than a foot away from him and swerved to hit him, he said.

The car allegedly hit the front wheel of his bicycle bike and knocked Janda down.

Janda said the car then swerved to avoid hitting the curb and spun 180 degrees in the street. Janda, who was not seriously injured in the fall, said he then stood up and kicked the back fender of the vehicle in anger and slipped.

The car took off and turned right onto West Street, he said.

Janda suffered minor bruises.

Janda said a black car was about 30 feet up the road and stopped when the alleged hit-and-run happened.

Afterward Janda walked toward the car to speak to the driver, but the vehicle pulled away before he reached it, he said.

Police reports indicate the driver of the Integra was a white male, about 22-years old, with short hair and no glasses.

Janda did not see the car’s license plate.

“I was in such a confused state of mind that I didn’t think to look at the license,” Janda said.

Janda said he believes the collision wasn’t an accident. “I can’t imagine why anyone would want to do it, but he definitely intentionally swerved at me,” he said.

Officials at the Ames Police Department said an appropriate investigation will be conducted into the report.
