Celebrate the holiday spirit at the Reiman Gardens
November 22, 1996
The Ames community is invited to join in the holiday spirit at a wreath-making workshop and gift and book sale at the Reiman Gardens next weekend.
This will be the second year for the wreath-making workshop which is being sponsored by the Reiman Gardens and the Iowa State Horticulture Club. The two sessions will start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1.
Linda Naeve, education director for Reiman Gardens, said the workshop was expanded to two sessions due to its popularity last year.
“We had to turn people away last year,” Naeve said.
A $20 fee covers the cost of materials. Participants make an 18- inch wreath decorated with items such as berries, ribbons and pine cones.
Naeve said the sessions will feature gift items for both gardeners and non-gardeners.
“I don’t think we had anyone who was dissatisfied last year,” Naeve said. “Everyone really enjoyed it.”
Diane Nelson, a member of the Reiman Garden’s publicity and education committees, said, “It’s an opportunity to create something on your own.”
She said it gives people the chance to pick and choose what they want and make something themselves, rather than just purchasing it at a store.
Nelson also said many people at last year’s workshop attended in groups of two, as a couple or a parent and child, and used the workshop as a family activity.
Naeve said it is a great way to get the community out to enjoy the gardens. “It’s really a fun time,” she said.
There are only 48 openings for the workshop, and participants must register in advance by calling 294-2751.
The University Book Store will also be at the gardens selling gift items such as books, holiday ornaments, stationery and greeting cards.
