An emergency meeting will be held today at 4 p.m. in the Gold Room of the Memorial Union for September 29th Movement members and supporters.
The purpose of today’s meeting is to prepare for an unauthorized open town meeting to be held next Tuesday at noon in the lobby of Beardshear Hall, said Milton McGriff, spokesperson for the Movement.
McGriff said the group was denied a permit to hold Tuesday’s meeting by Dean of Students Kathleen MacKay earlier this week. Strategies for civil disobedience will be addressed at today’s meeting.
“We have marched; we have prayed; we have petitioned; we have cried,” McGriff said.
McGriff said the way Iowa State President Martin Jischke handled the attack on black student security officer Deantrious Mitchell did not help promote healing on the campus.
“If Dr. Jischke continues to turn a deaf ear, we will continue to turn up the volume,” he said.
