A resolution to keep Department of Public Safety officers unarmed was withdrawn by the Government of the Student Body senators who authored the bill at Wednesday night’s meeting.
The authors of the resolution were David Ammann, off campus, Marcia Johnson, minority, and Yasmin Blackburn, off campus.
The resolution stated that the presence of weapons on campus endangers the safety of all Iowa State students. One of the main focuses of the resolution was the crime rate on campus. It stated that a DPS officer has not been threatened by armed persons in the last three years.
Blackburn said, in a previous Daily interview, she would fear for her safety if DPS officers became armed.
