Common questions, simple answers

QUESTION: I recently drove my car to take our team to a sports club event and had an accident. No one was hurt. Am I insured through Iowa State so the university will pay to get my car fixed.

ANSWER: No. Your own insurance will need to cover any injuries or damages when you are driving your personal car. Make sure that anyone who drives club members to an activity has a car in good repair, adequate insurance and a good driving record.

The best protection is to use one of the GSB vans, because they are kept in great shape by Transportation Services and are fully insured. Plus, all drivers must have their driving records checked in advance.

Club members and officers beware: You are only protected by Iowa State in limited circumstances. Questions may arise about liability, insurance or waiver agreements in reference to almost any activity.

Whether you are participating in a campus activity, serving on the planning committee or just attending an event, don’t hesitate to ask for information and assistance.
