Seniors prepare to haunt Hilton

Halloween is over, but the Senior Class Council is still in the spirit with special perks for seniors at “Haunted Hilton” set for Saturday at the Cyclone Shoot-out.

The event starts at 4:15 p.m. Seniors may obtain tickets for $1.50 from a senior class council member in advance or at the door for $2. The first 150 seniors will receive a glow-in-the-dark mug when they arrive.

Senior Class Council President Brian Grattan said a special section will be reserved for seniors in Hilton Coliseum.

Amanda Gleason, a member of the council and the coordinator for Haunted Hilton, said this will be a new event for seniors this year. It was created because a new alcohol policy instituted by the Student Alumni Association does not allow the council to sponsor an event at a bar as they have in past years.

Last year, the council held “Senior Spook” at the Dean’s List in Campustown and held a costume contest as part of the festivities.

She said the Cyclone Shoot-out was originally scheduled for Halloween night which would have been ideal but when the date changed they decided to go ahead and keep most of the same activities. The costume contest was sacrificed because of the date change, though.

The next big activity for the Senior Class Council is the dean for a day event. A few lucky students will have the chance to serve as the dean of their college for a day. The dean will get to experience student life first-hand once more and take the place of the student.

Any student who has aspirations to be a dean for a day may buy a raffle ticket from a council member. The $1 tickets will be available at Parent and Family Weekend’s Casino Night in the Great Hall on Saturday evening.

Grattan said the participants will switch places on Nov. 11 or 13. Proceeds will go to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The council will get more serious on Nov. 15 with a graduate school seminar.

The focus of the seminar will be applications and financing, Grattan said.

Carrie Beam, a member of the council, said, “We’re having a graduate school preview day to help students with the application process and to kind of give students a student view of graduate school.”
