Unless he works out a plea-bargain with the Story County Attorney’s Office, suspended student security guard Deantrious Mitchell will be in court on Monday.
Mitchell, who is black, confessed to filing a false report of assault with the Iowa State Department of Public Safety.
If in court Monday in Nevada at 1:30 p.m., he will have to enter a plea of “guilty” or “not guilty”
Mitchell claimed he was assaulted near Clyde Williams field by eight white men on the morning of Oct. 18. He told DPS that the men cut him on his arms and face and uttered racial epithets at him.
After State Medical Examiner’s Office officials found that the cuts were self-inflicted by a razor blade, Mitchell confessed to DPS officers on Nov. 4.
On Monday, Nov. 18, a Story County judge found probable cause for filing charges against Mitchell. He is charged with a serious misdemeanor which carries a maximum of a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison.
