Hunting time is here again

Pheasants beware. This weekend marks the start of one of the most popular hunting seasons for many Iowa State students.

Pheasant season begins on Saturday, Oct. 26. Several cyclones have been gearing up for the big event.

Greg White, a senior in construction engineering, has been planning his hunting trip for nearly three weeks. “I’ve been going to the target range and practicing my shooting.”

White will hunt for his fowl at Big Creek State Park. Though opening day is fun, he said it is also crowded.

In Ames a hunting license can be purchased for $17.50 at Wal-Mart and Carr True Value.

Dan Scott, an employee of Wal-Mart and a hunter safety instructor, said a driver’s license and a hunter’s safety certificate is all that is needed to get a hunting license.

A license is not required for people under the age of 16; they just need a licensed adult present. A hunting certificate is needed for anyone born after Jan. 1, 1967 .

Pheasant season will last through Jan. 10. Hunting is allowed from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. every day.
