Women’s soccer team has successful road trip

The Iowa State women’s soccer team made a three-game road trip to Illinois last weekend and had great success.
The Cyclones came away with two wins and one loss after all was said and done. ISU faced Loyola, DePaul, and Illinois State. DePaul was the only team to beat the ‘Clones during the visit to the “Land of Lincoln”.
On Friday ISU faced Loyola in a low shooting match-up. Despite being out shot 8-4, the Cyclones came away with a 3-2 victory over Loyola.
ISU took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cyclone forward Jun Shen. Loyola tied the score at 1-1 and headed to half time.
In the second half, the Cyclones fell behind 2-1 when Loyola scored its second goal of the game with almost 13 minutes left. ISU bounced right back behind the play of Cyclone forward Jo Hinks. Hinks not only tied the game for ISU with her first goal, but also gave the Cyclones a 3-2 lead for the win with her second goal.
The ISU team headed to Illinois State on Monday, looking to end its road trip with a win. They did just that with a 2-1 victory over Illinois State.
ISU forward Barb Lavergne led the way for the Cyclones with two goals, and Mercer collected 12 saves on the day.
The team was outshot 28-21, but made its shots count and came home with a successful road trip under its belts.
In between these two victories, the Cyclones traveled to DePaul and dropped a 1-0 decision. ISU outshot DePaul 9-7, but could not come up with a score.
With less than two minutes left, DePaul’s Liz Gawne scored the only goal of the game and the Cyclones left with the loss. ISU goalie Hayley Mercer tallied six saves.
The Cyclones play host to Big 12 opponent Colorado on Friday.
