Iowa State’s Pratt again in trouble with the law

Iowa State basketball starting forward Kenny Pratt, who is academically ineligible for the first semester of competition, continues to have problems.

Pratt was arrested after turning himself in on Oct. 4 for a disorderly conduct warrant. The incident occurred on Sept. 28 at the Dean’s List when Pratt reportedly got into a fight with a bouncer. Police came to the scene and charged Pratt along with three other people.

ISU Basketball Coach Tim Floyd could not be reached for comment as of press time. Tom Kroeschell, director of sports information, said the university will respond to Pratt’s arrest today.

After turning himself in, Pratt was released on $175 bond. This is the first run-in with the law that Pratt has had since last season when he was charged with sexual assault and temporarily dismissed from the basketball team.

The charges were later dropped and Pratt rejoined the team. He played a key role for the Cyclones, who won their first-ever Big Eight Tournament title.

Pratt’s fiasco is the latest headache in a troubled off-season for ISU. Earlier this year, All-Big Eight forward Dedric Willoughby and center Kelvin Cato were handed suspensions.

Cato was suspended for three games by Floyd for violations of team rules that included skipping weight room workouts. His suspension, since it was handed down by Floyd and not the university, is open-ended.

Willoughby was suspended one game for skipping class to play in an Ames Center Court League game.

Floyd also canceled the Cyclones’ planned overseas trip, saying he wasn’t satisfied with his team’s off-season performance.

Pratt, who averaged 15.3 points and 6.5 rebounds for ISU last season, could have been eligible for action as soon as Dec. 21 when the Cyclones play in the first round of the Iowa State Holiday Classic.
