Catt counseling available

The Catt Hall naming controversy is creating a lot of emotional pain on campus.

We realize that grappling with this and other race issues can take a roll on students’ well-being and academic pursuits. Student Counseling Service (SCS) staff want to help students explore their thoughts and feelings about these issues in a confidential and supportive setting.

SCS is committed to the promotion and affirmation of diversity and the elimination of oppression in its broadest sense.

Our mission requires that people of every background be able to use our services with an expectation of respectful treatment.

We recognize that the promotion of diversity can involve clashes in values and perspectives.

Thus continual examination and discussion of such conflicts are crucial for their effective resolution. As painful as these issues are, we value the opportunity for growth offered by this challenge to the ISU community. As an agency, we recognize the need to make all of these issues high priorities in our work to ensure basic human rights.

Students are invited to seek help at SCS, located on the third floor of the Student Services Building (294-5056). Like the student population, our staff represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.

After an initial half-hour appointment, your screening counselor will make an effort to connect you with a counselor who matches your preferences and schedule. Counseling services are free to students, and our hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Fridays. Staff who are affected should contact the ISU Employee Assistance Program at 238-2642.
