Just watch, listen, and learn

Now, thanks to an ISU graduate and his corporation which is based in Ames, it is possible to watch TV while surfing the Internet and listening to a favorite CD.

Phanos Pitiris said he developed the ELLi Corporation in 1991 to “design and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, Windows-based computer systems.”

Their newest product, the ELLi TV Web 3000, Pitiris said, is an “entertainment-computer.”

Pitiris said the TV Web 3000 comes with a 27 inch monitor with picture in picture capabilities. This allows e-mail to be run while watching TV.

The TV Web 3000 also comes with a wireless keyboard and pointing device, a high-quality sound system and a VCR connection, he said.

“You can listen to your favorite CD’s, play computer games, send and receive e-mail and faxes and browse the Internet. You can even prepare your word-procession and spreadsheet documents,” according to a press release from the ELLi Corporation.

Pitiris said they are currently looking to have multiple CD capability so the user of the TV Web 3000 doesn’t have to get up to change CD’s for the computer or stereo.

Pitiris said currently the TV Web 3000 is being marketed to both the home user and to businesses.

For the home user it means being able to use it “from the comfort of your couch,” Pitiris said.

Pitiris said businesses can use it for “training purposes, presentations and bulletin boards.”

“The TV Web 3000 runs under a Windows ’95 platform with options for a 32 inch and a 35 inch monitor,” Pitiris said.

Currently the whole set up starts at $2,500, but Pitiris said many people are telling him the price should be raised, so they are thinking about doing that.

ELLi has been working on this project since last January and had a prototype in Gateway center in Ames, Pitiris said.

The ELLi TV Web 3000 was put on the market a couple of weeks ago. Pitiris said so far they’ve had a favorable response.
