You still there Jack?

Editorial Board

It’s weird when you think about it. Really weird, actually.

This business of renaming Cyclone Stadium-Jack Trice Field in honor of Jack Trice has been around for 13 some odd years; really longer than that if truth be told, but who’s counting?

At any rate, that’s a long time.

That’s time enough for an infant’s voice to start cracking and develop acne.

That’s time enough for a Ford Gremlin to go out of style.

That’s time enough for full forests to bloom.

That’s time enough to actually navigate your way through the lines at the bookstores in August.

It’s even time enough, though barely, to find a meter spot in front of the Union.

Yep, a long time.

Yet Jack Trice is still knocking on our doors.

He’s been knocking for 13 years.

It’s odd, then, that we haven’t decided yet whether we’re going to let him in or call the cops on him.

It’s equally strange that we keep hearing this, “We need more information,” theme from campus groups and personalities and beyond, most prominently the state Board of Regents.

This is not a new issue.

This is an issue that’s floated around the Iowa State community for — do you remember? — about 13 years.

We’re not sure if any more information is even out there.

We really need to settle this thing.

Trice just can’t keep knocking forever.

So — to those in power and even those not — here’s the deal: If you need more info, go get it.

Pick up a newspaper.

Talk to someone.

Do some soul searching.

Eat a bagel.

Stand on your head.

Whatever.

But above all, decide.
