Following in footsteps of father on field

The Cyclones will have another Jerry Moses on its football team.

The Waterloo East running back said Wednesday he will accept a scholarship to Iowa State.

His decision comes 26 years after his father, also named Jerry, said he’d play for the Cyclones.

”It makes me real happy, but the decision was entirely up to him,” the elder Moses said.

The younger Moses, known as J.J., is the leading rusher in the Mississippi Valley Conference this season with 1,095 yards.

He scored 14 touchdowns in the first seven games.

Moses missed most of the second half of last Friday’s 42-20 loss to Cedar Rapids Prairie after suffering a concussion.

He expects to play this Friday against Cedar Rapids Regis.

Moses said he also had offers from Iowa, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Kansas State and Northern Iowa.

”Iowa State is a good, real clean program and I like the coaching staff,” he said.

Moses also said he’s eager to play on the same team as Darren Davis for sure and possibly Troy Davis.

”I don’t know if he’s going to go pro or not, but he’s a great player,” Moses said of Troy Davis, the nation’s top rusher.
