Stepping into the weekend
October 24, 1996
Despite the recent madness taking place on campus, for at least one weekend some people will be putting it behind them.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council will be holding its annual Greek Fest celebration today and tomorrow. Greek Fest celebrates the eight historically-black sororities and fraternities on campus. It promises to be a weekend full of fun, partying, dancing and an all-around good time.
Greg Lewis, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., sees Greek Fest as not only a chance for black students to put the craziness behind them but also a time for many black students to bond with one another.
“Traditionally Greek Fest has been the highlight of the semester as far as socializing goes. It has been the only event that caters to us as African Americans, it gets us together both greeks and non-greeks alike. It’s the only time ISU is fun,” he said.
Headlining the weekend is the NPHC sponsored step show.
Stepping is a method of group dancing that involves backdrops from African-American culture, such as the call and response technique that is commonly heard in the singing of spirituals.
Following the step show there will be a party thrown by the NPHC from 11-2 p.m.
The festivities begin tonight in the Sun Room at the Memorial Union. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.
