Two Cedar Rapids men were arrested on numerous charges in Ames after they fled the scene of a burglary in Cambridge early Tuesday morning.
Kenneth E. McReynolds, 34, of 731 Danbury in Cedar Rapids, was charged with burglary, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, two counts of driving under suspension, and driving while barred.
Bruce D. Plagman, 28, of the same address, was a passenger in the car.
He was arrested for burglary and theft.
The two men were observed stealing a stereo from a Camaro parked on the street in Cambridge at about 1 a.m., said Penny Westsall, a captain with the Story County Sheriff’s Department.
A witness reported the theft to the Story County authorities and gave a description of the men, their vehicle, and the vehicle’s license plate, Westsall said.
Sheriff’s officials immediately issued warrants for the men and a law enforcement agency broadcast to watch for the vehicle.
Ames police spotted the red Dodge Ram truck and stopped it at about 2 a.m.
Once stopped, the men were arrested, the truck was impounded and the stereo was recovered.
McReynolds and Plagman were turned over to the Story County Sheriff’s Department.
