Harkin needs to tell truth
October 6, 1996
The recent Vietnam Veterans endorsement of Congressman Lightfoot for U. S. Senate was called extremist by Susan McCue of the Harkin campaign.
General Patrick Brady, a Medal of Honor Winner during the Vietnam War also condemned Harkin’s vote on the Flag Amendment. Every member of Congress and Senate who have served in the military have released their Military Records.
Could it be that Senator Harkin exaggerated his military service? Is it also extremism that the American Legion released information about Democrat Senator Harkin and Republican member of Congress Jim Leach, revealing if they are re-elected that they will vote against the Flag Amendment in the 105th Congress? There were some 200 plus Legionaries and VFW Members present when Marty Justis, Executive Director of the Citizens Flag Alliance came to Des Moines on Tuesday from Indianapolis to make this announcement. None of the local media carried the story about the Flag Amendment that is favored by 82 percent of Iowans.
Harkin has finally admitted that he owns a half million dollar home in the Bahaman Islands, that he does not live in a home in Iowa, and that his wife has a $200,000 government political job with the Clinton/McDougal Administration.
Senator Harkin needs to release his military records so voters can know the truth.
