Lap-dance ordinance passes

Now that the third and final phase of the Ames City Council’s lap-dancing ordinance has been passed, how exactly will this affect nude dancing in Ames?

In all honesty, probably very little. While nude “lap-dancing” has prohibited it within Ames City Council’s jurisdiction, apparently establishments that offer such activities have proven to be more than adept at skirting such ordinances.

The purpose of this ordinance is supposed to prevent completely nude lap-dancers from coming in direct contact with audience members.

Forgive us for being a tad crude to illustrate a point, but in the past when ordinances of this type of have been past in cities around America, dancers have resorted to simply applying a small pieces of tape over their nipples, hence skirting the “completely nude” rule.

But heck, if these dancers were wearing anything less than snow parka, wouldn’t the result pretty much the same as if they were completely nude?

How this ordinance is supposed to prevent “immoral” behavior or prevent prostitution in these establishments (there has been at least one reported case of prostitution occurring believed to have occurred as a result of nude lap-dancing) is really beyond us.

Don’t get us wrong, however. The death of completely nude lap-dancing is really not an event to mourn over.

The city of Ames and its citizens will surely not be any worse for wear for not being able to experience the wondrous experience of a lap-dance within the city limits.

But will these ordinances have the desired effect on Ames?

That remains to be seen.
