Celebrities help in fund-raising effort

Alexander Avery, a local boy in need of a lung and small-bowel transplant, will be the guest of honor at a benefit auction on Saturday at Nolan Plaza in downtown Des Moines.

The auction will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and items to be auctioned include donations from the Iowa Barnstormers, Governor Terry Branstad and actor Tom Arnold, all of whom will be attend the event.

A full-access bench pass and press pass will be auctioned for an Iowa State football game as will an autographed, framed poster of ISU football player Troy Davis. Other items include a golf package, a hunting package and a guys night out to Hooters restaurant complete with a limo ride.

Free food and drinks will be given to all participants and there are door prizes including gift certificates to restaurants and hotels.

The auction is sponsored by the Drake Law Department and all proceeds will go to the fund to help save Alex’s life.
